President Obama has repeatly tried to get the Republicans to work with him on issues.  Things like PAYGO and lower takes for the middle class should be conservative issues they are quick to jump on, but they aren’t jumping, which leads many to think the Republican Party only wants to destroy Obama not help America.

The effects of the devestating earthquakes in Haiti can be seen in news footage and in all papers and newsprint. What cannot be seen is the cost of human life and expense of restoring those that survived these terrible quakes to full involvement with life. .

The loss of life is extreme just as is the potential each of those lives had to improve Haiti.

The Wayne County Democratic Party wishes to commend President Obama and his administration for the rapid response to this crisis and and also offer our prayers for the people of Haiti.

With the ever increasing rise in health care cost, the hudge debt incurred on the average family and the hudge profits of insurance companies, it is obvious that health care reform is necessary and important to America's national security.  As Chairman of our local  Democratic Party, I urge our elected members of the United States House and Senate on both sides of the isle,  to come together and give the Citizens of our nation a heath care plan that is both efficient and workable and that benefits the majority of it's citizens.

   Every now and then we all make mistakes.  Some mistakes are of course bigger than others.  Mistakes are those things that an eraser can clean up.  Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) made a huge error of respect saying to the President of the United States in a Joint Session of Congress "You Liar".

   Even though Congressman Wilson may not now or ever in the future respect the current president, he none the less should respect the position of the President and the Congress of the United States.

My fellow democrats,

     Images of Racist remarks and violence that have erupted at Town Hall meetings accross America are only intended to divide americans and not unify them.  We urge discussion of all political issues, but while many on the other side are not tolerant, we urge tolerance,civility and restraint.

    The 2009 County Convention was held at the Courthouse and lunch was served following at the Headquarters.      

     Representative Van Braxton was the keynote speaker and he highlighted the importance of the new budget.  Noting that it is going to be difficult to make the tough decisions regarding cuts, it must be done.

     He also said electing Democrats this year is even more important because they will be redrawing the districts next term.

    Thanks to all our supporters.  We are so happy to announce that our 2009 Reverse raffle was a success.  Thank you all for your generosity.  It is great to have democrats and republicans too, that appreciate what our party does and our candidates do for Wayne County.

    We are good shape going forward.  In a time when economic times are uncertain at best, this is a relief.  So thank you and we look forward to better times in '09.
